Product description

For a company that promised to "put a pause on new features," Apple sure has been busy-there's barely a feature left untouched in Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard." There's more speed, more polish, more refinement-but still no manual. Fortunately, David Pogue is back, with the humor and expertise that have made this the #1 bestselling Mac book for eight years straight. You get all the answers with jargon-free introductions to:

  • Big-ticket changes. A 64-bit overhaul. Faster everything. A rewritten Finder. Microsoft Exchange compatibility. All-new QuickTime Player. If Apple wrote it, this book covers it.
  • Snow Leopard Spots. This book demystifies the hundreds of smaller enhancements, too, in all 50 programs that come with the Mac: Safari, Mail, iChat, Preview, Time Machine.
  • Shortcuts. This must be the tippiest, trickiest Mac book ever written. Undocumented surprises await on every page.
  • Power usage. Security, networking, build-your-own Services, file sharing with Windows, even Mac OS X's Unix chassis-this one witty, expert guide makes it all crystal clear.

« Great service as always »
First book arrived early, but was not in good condition because the binding was damaged. Notified the seller and they shipped me a replacement that arrived two days later in the condition as advertised. Great service!!!

    « Pogue a winner »
The book is helpful for the beginner as well as the more in formed user. I wish this book included chapters on the ilife software rather than going to the website.

« Absolute must for new iMac owners »
Just recently moved over to Apple with an iMac. Needed more information that what comes with product and this book provides everything I need to know. Love the book and iMac.

« Manual Missing Any iWeb Info »
I purchased this in hopes of learning some inside info on creating a website using iWeb from Snow Leopard. Nothing in the Index and nothing in the Table of Contents. Lot of other detail about the OS. A loser for me!

« Love the paper version; hate the Kindle version on my Mac »
I've owned the Missing Manual for every version of Mac systems that has been issued. As a long-time Mac user I find the manuals to be valuable beyond words.

I recently purchased the Kindle version of Snow Leopard Missing Manual and tried using it on my Mac with the software "Kindle for Mac". I wish I had not. There's no index, and no way to search for subjects. The table of contents is huge and difficult to use.

The Missing Manuals aren't books that I read for fun; I use them to look up information on specific subjects and I can't do that with the Kindle edition on my Mac. I suppose that is the fault of the software of Kindle for Mac.

Let's hope that Amazon will improve the software of Kindle for Mac to include search features.
